ABOUT THE SOCIETY
The Oxford University Investment & Finance Society is a University based organisation that provides information on the role of the financial services sector and related fields. By establishing links with financial firms, both small and large, the Society aims to provide information about key firms and contacts within this sector to those interested in entering the world of finance. With over 850 members, we assists those firms by providing a platform from which to progress their graduate recruitment programs, inspire potential recruits, and hopefully fulfil our members career aspirations.
Evening speaker presentations are the foundation of the Society’s operations. These consist of a presentation provided by financial firms and professionals, followed by a questions and answers session. The subsequent buffet and drinks offer an excellent opportunity to talk to the guests from the City in a more relaxed and informal way. As always, the Society attracts speakers from the top tier of city banks, including: Royal Bank Of Scotland, Deutsche Bank, Goldman Sachs, Lehman Brothers, Merrill Lynch, Morgan Stanley, and UBS Warburg.
Responding to the high level of demand for more interactive events by our members, the Society has actively tried to bring a wider variety of these types of events into its portfolio. In the past, we had the opportunity to hone our financial skills in a currency trading game with Citibank, not to mention a stock-picking game with Merrill Lynch Mercury Asset Management. We have also been host to a multilevel trading game with Warburg Dillon Read and a highly contemporary corporate case study with Salomon Smith Barney.
The Society often organises excursions to some of the larger City firms and organisations in order to provide a hands-on exposure to financial operations. It is a chance for you to get more directly acquainted with some of the specifics of the financial world and experience the dynamic nature of the work. Previously, we have visited LIFFE and the London Stock Exchange, not to mention such firms as Goldman Sachs, Merrill Lynch, Credit Suisse and The Chase Manhattan Bank.
Dinners, drinks and parties form an integral part of the OUIFS's activities. They provide you with an unrivalled opportunity to meet other Society members and, together with the City representatives, enjoy discussions in a relaxed and informal atmosphere.
